Newsletters are excellent for keeping your brand fresh in the minds of your customers and prospects. However, creating new content can sometimes be an overwhelming task.

Arrest Your Readers’ Attention

To get your email newsletter opened, you need a subject line thatsubject line will grab the attention of readers. This makes your subject line one of the most important components of your newsletter.

The subject line should succinctly tell the reader how they will benefit from reading the rest of the content. It should also prove the rest of the information is worth reading.
Lead Strong and Be Brief

Once you have your reader’s attention with the subject line, it’s vital to keep it. The average person spends little time reading a newsletter, so it’s vital to be brief, lead with your strongest content, and make it easy for the reader to digest. Make sure you use:

  • Short blocks of content
  • Snapshots
  • Bullet points
  • Lists
Create to Connect
You connect with your reader when you provide value. The “value” can be information on your industry, advice, checklists, coupons – anything that makes the message valuable to the
reader.

Messages that are only “buy my product or service” tend to fall on deaf ears as there is no value to the reader.

Here are content ideas:
  • What’s new
  • Case studies
  • Buying advice
  • New ideas
  • Tips and tricks
  • Pictures of projects
  • Maintenance suggestions
  • …anything that gives solid information and also presents you as an expert!

Repetition Is Key
For most readers, it takes repetition for new
information to sink in (think of doctors, spouses and parents repeating the same thing over and over again). Focus on explaining the topic or stating your offer multiple ways over time.
