Think Outside the Boat
I was on the beach.
And a boat went by.
Not just an ordinary boat, but one with a digital billboard.
And it’s impossible not to look at it.
It’s an alternative to aerial advertising.
I couldn’t believe it. Such a simple, ingenious idea to grab the attention of beachgoers.
Genius!
Aerial advertising has been around for decades. You can’t not look at it since the plane’s noise is impossible to ignore.
But there is only 1 ad
The boat has multiple ads, from multiple advertisers. Most likely a lower cost for each advertiser, but for the boat owner, higher total revenue and client diversification.
Really smart!
This got me thinking - what could Solutions for Growth clients do that’s “Outside the box boat?”
Food shop (bagel, donut, etc.)
What if you had pricing for more than a dozen? What about 18 items instead of 12? Would that help increase the average sales ticket?
Consultant/Attorney/CPA
Why sell your services only on an hourly basis? Why not sell a package of services? Would that put clients at ease? Would that increase profitability since not all clients would use up the whole package?
Manufacturer/Distributor
What if you included consulting/shipping/guarantee/packaging in your pricing? Would it make it simpler for the customer? Would that attract customers who are concerned about your competitors’ “added fees?”
Home Services
What if you included a minor additional service at no extra charge (for example, we’ll lube all your hinges so doors no longer squeak)? Would that show that you care? Would that make you stand apart from the competition? Would that lead to more business?
You get the point I’m making.
The goal is to stand apart from the competition and drive more business.
Don’t do the same old thing (that your competitors do too).
Each business has the potential to “think outside the box boat” - perhaps it’s time to go to the beach!
